Had to re-read the linked page a couple times. I still don’t see what the big deal is.

DTWPS got death threats sent to hir tumblr, notforyoutobreak sent an email to tumblr support, and this was their response.

Yea, I got that. What I meant was that I didn’t see how the original post was a big deal.  Maybe I’m just a jaded hard-ass or something, but a post like that would barely make me roll my eyes. Maybe it’s just my age, too. It’s hard to tell how old people are around here, but I get the general impression I’m older than the average. When people wanted to talk shit about me, they did it in person because the internet wasn’t as prevalent. So I have trouble reacting the same to internet hate posted by some dude who probably lives in another country.

Well, good for you. 

But DTWPS has had multiple death threats thrown at them on this site (mainly because they point out racism, and white people don’t like it, so like racists do, they say threatening stuff).  This was only one that they got.  I was really trying to point out how awful Tumblr is by saying death threats fall under “freedom of expression,” when they don’t.

Plus, you can’t erase the context of racism in this conversation no matter how much you want to.  Like I said, Tumblr support has protected white people against “harassment” from PoC who simply called out their racism.  But a PoC RECEIVES DEATH THREATS and they do nothing?  There’s something seriously wrong.  And I have a feeling that if it was a black person throwing a death threat at a white person, Tumblr would have taken it seriously.

But it’s great that you don’t think death threats and racism are a big deal.  Pat yourself on the back, and leave people alone who are bothered by receiving death threats from racists and Tumblr saying it’s just “freedom of expression.”  It should be pretty fucking obvious why this is troublesome, but if you “just don’t see it” and “don’t think it’s a big deal,” then fine.  Stop fucking responding to this thread, then.

IDK, I just don’t think it’s exactly “soft-hearted” to be really bothered that Tumblr protects racists and is making an environment where PoC can’t speak out at all and yet have to tolerate disgusting shit like you got.

I wasn’t going to mention it, but they basically gave me the exact same response about “Freedom of speech” even when I pointed out to them that they were fostering an environment where “Freedom of Speech” was actually being limited because someone was getting threatened for expressing their freedom of speech.

I wish I was more surprised that this was the response tumblr gave, but honestly I’m really disappointed nonetheless.  For once I thought maybe they’d step up and do what was right, but no :/
